New €2.5m CT Suite unveiled at The Mercy Hospital.

4th April 2013

The new CT imaging Suite designed and project managed by Reddy Architecture + Urbanism was officially opened on Friday 4th April by Minister Simon Coveney. Housing two new state-of-the art CT Scanners, the new CT Suite will enable the diagnosis of a wide range of diseases and allow staff at the Radiology Department to better monitor the progress of patients who are undergoing treatments.

Designed to ease patient anxiety and coupled with the significant improvements in the quality of the images produced, the new CT suite is now a perfect blend of the comfortable and the clinical. Given many find the experience claustrophobic, Andy Owen, radiographic services manager, remarked on how the design places the patients’ needs in mind. The new suite is now an airy space where palm trees and a balmy blue sky — courtesy of light boxes in the ceiling provide a positive distraction for patients. Dr Martin O'Driscoll, Consultant Radiologist at the hospital said: "Our new 128 and 16 slice state-of-the-art scanners, housed in a purpose built facility, allow us to optimise our ability to image the body." Mercy hospital chief executive Sandra Daly said “the new suite reaffirms the hospital’s dedication to high-quality patient care”
