The new 25 x 10 m diving pool at the University of Limerick Arena adds additional facilities to the existing adjoining 50 x 25 m Olympic standard pool.
The new facility is designed to convert from a 4 m deep diving pool with 1 m and 3 m springboards to a standard 25 x 10 x 1.2 m training pool.
Floor Areas: 950 m² (10,225 ft²)
The transformation from diving pool to standard pool is achieved through the use of a 10 x 12.5 m moving floor and retractable boom which are linked to hydraulically controlled springboards. When the springboards are elevated at 45 degrees the moving floor can be moved to a depth of 1.2 m for standard pool use. The boards cannot be lowered for diving unless the moving floor is retracted to a depth of 4m.
The external façade of the new extension is clad in brick to blend in with the existing arena. The north façade is clad in a double glazed curtain wall providing glare-free north light to the pool hall.
