A social and affordable housing development, crèche and community centre on an 11.3 hectare greenfield site. Units: 210
Floor area (crèche): 480 m² (5,146 ft²)
Floor area (community centre):
140 m² (1,506 ft²)
Density: 18.5 dwellings/ha
Client: Cork County Council
The scheme comprises 210 units in a mix of 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-bed apartments and houses, with a further 18 affordable housing sites on an adjacent 1.75 hectare plot integrated into the overall design.
The layout achieves a series of neighbourhood zones comprising a variety of housing types and groupings in closes, terraces, streets and roads designed to promote a sense of vibrancy and community within this large-scale development.
The site topography was a natural influence on the design and existing features such as trees and hedgerows were retained and incorporated into the design as much as possible.
A split-level community building is provided to accommodate a Crèche at an upper level and a Community Centre below.
