NUI GALWAY MASTER PLAN

Facts

A master plan prepared to optimise the use of available land and property in the context of the university’s ‘Campus of the Future’ programme

Main campus area
105 ha (260 acres)

Number of students
16,200

Features

The master plan involved an intensive period of information gathering and research

Amongst the key aims were to plan for the sustainable growth of the University, re-prioritise vehicular access, reinforce character areas, pursue a sustainable policy and achieve the best use of its physical resources

Eight strategic objectives form the framework for proposed development over the next 10 years and highlight development opportunities

A Spatial Framework Plan has been developed for each of the character areas defined by the master plan. Each character area demonstrates the aims of the master plan at a smaller scale, to provide guidance for future detailed design
