The Challenge

The project required the transformation of a protected structure into a five-star hotel, incorporating additional bedrooms, a ballroom and spa facilities. A key challenge was the sensitive restoration of the historic fabric while upgrading the building to modern performance standards. The adaptive reuse of outbuildings and the integration of landscaped garden into a series of legible outdoor spaces were central to creating a cohesive and high-quality hospitality environment.

The Story

Led by a specialist team, the restoration followed international best practice, combining detailed archival research with precise craftsmanship. Historic features were carefully reinstated, including the reconstruction of chimney stacks to their original proportions using reclaimed bricks. This meticulous approach ensured that the architectural integrity and character of the 18th-century building were preserved while allowing for the discreet integration of modern interventions and a contemporary extension.

Cashel Palace has been revitalised as a five-star hotel, blending historic grandeur with modern luxury. The design carefully conceals new services and interventions, maintaining the building's original character while delivering contemporary performance standards. The restored structure, complemented by new additions and landscaped grounds, offers a coherent and refined guest experience. The project stands as an exemplar of sensitive adaptive reuse, ensuring the long-term preservation and relevance of a significant heritage asset.
